Is there a best month or season to try to sell a script?

I know you say that send out your queries to producers so that they get there in the middle of the week...I've done that in the past and you're right.

What about this: I'm just finishing up my newest sciript's final draft. Should I send it out in the middle of Thanksgiving and the holidays--like I want to--should I wait until after the holidays...after January 1st?

It's an action flick. Does genre matter in these matters?

This is probably one of those things I'm overthinking...

But I'm about ready to send out another batch of query letters that are destined to go unread. It seems like in particular, I don't get a lot of negative replies. A few agents will scribble "no thanks" on a letter and send it back in the SASE. Production companies never use them. Even when they send a 'stop sending us crap' letter, they use their own postage and include my SASE inside. I...

my dilemma on query letters

I have a reputation of writing good busniess letters in my MBA classroom.

but when it comes to show biz, I'm ending up in problems.

for example: if I were to target Dreamworks, and I address the letter to Steven Spielberg. it'll go to the trash can.

if I were to find out an intern and then address to him, he may change companies in weeks so that he can get more pay. so whom do I target.

Ok, I have taken a script and produced it myself. I now have a full length feature film that is in post production. While one of my producing partners is editing this thing, I need to put together a marketing campaign and be prepared to shop this film to potential buyers. I've got about a year to do all of this while the movie is in post. Does anyone know of any good online resources that can help me along with this task, and help me actually define what my task is?

effect of the writer's strike on selling

Is it okay to try to sell a script during the writer's strike? Would any good agent try to do that for you? Or would agents be more open to looking at scripts from non-WGA members now that things are slower?

What's the protocol here?

Can you approach producers but say nothing will be signed until after the strike? Or only under the terms the writers are striking for?

Is the Writers Building worth joining? I noticed that William Martell is listed as one of the writers who has visited the site. Does that mean he joined?

Have all the directors, producers, agents, etc. who are listed joined the Writers Building or is the site just listing them as an enticement?

Does anyone have a track record with this group?

BBC Writers room

Most of you know how hard it is to get your script read, well that is without forking out some money for a contest. The BBC Writer's room will read your script and consider it for production by one of their numerous divisions and they actually reply with comments on the merits and shortfalls of your script. Read the rules -- they are specific of what they will consider.

should the logline be in the cover letter?

Selling scripts to DVD market

Hi Bill,

You mentioned several times that you've never sold a script to a straight to video prodco by using a query letter.

I think you said it was always with a phone or contacts if I'm correct.

Do you just call up and ask to speak with the director of development and pitch a script over the phone to them? How much of your success is due to networking and making contacts at these companies?

What is the best way for someone starting out to try to sell in this...

Has anyone posted their script and synopsis on Inktip and had a production company dowload their synopsis and never contact them. Do these companies assign your idea to another screenwriter? Maybe it's not a good idea to post anything on Inktip or other sites.

Which companies produce action scripts that would cost about $10 million to produce?
